Back in 1956, there was enough interest and demand for low cost cargo movers and camping vans that Road & Track wrote up a head to head of the VW Microbus against the other German DKW Karavan.

DKW was also known as DKW Auto Union, which was the brands of .. ... .. .. in Germany. The union was symbolized by 4 rings, and paraded proudly as the front badge. If the 4 rings sounds familiar, then you guessed it. That company is now Audi, owned by Volkswagen.

Way back in the last century ('96, maybe '97) I used flat4.net to host the website of a local vw club. The club fizzled out, but I hung on to the domain name because I thought I'd join some other club that might need a website. Life got in the way however, and here it is over 10 years later and the little domain has just been sitting here. I can't just give it away or sell it after this long, so what to do? I've decided to just start posting things I find that are cool or interesting related to flat 4 power. Mostly VW, but maybe a little Subaru, Porsche or BMW boxer thrown in.
